Dear Dr. Maclagan,
The above address explains itself: for I was ‘released’ yesterday & returned home last evening.
I hope the fortnight’s detention has been worthwhile. The position seems to be thus: out East I apparently contracted Amoebic Dysentery. As the disease was characterised by abnormal features – particularly the apparent absence of parasites when searched for – a correct diagnosis was not arrived at. Hence in the absence of specific treatment a chronic ulceration developed and in conjunction with an abnormality in my abdomen this led to a partial stoppage. Hence the operation last Dec. which successfully

　希望在醫院待了一晚有所收穫，結論如下：我在遠東染上阿米巴性痢疾，因這疾病症狀不常見且異常（尤其是檢查時未能查獲任何寄生蟲），致使無法正確診斷。在未接受特定治療情況下，身體出現慢性潰瘍情形，同時腹部異常使身體不通順，因而去年12月動刀。
