Thank you for your letter, the book, informing me “chleng beng”, as it is in colloquial Amoyese, and the list of slides.
I delayed replying as I wanted first to know how things would test them out more or less definitely.
XXX Passage I did not actually confirm the booking till this week, they provisionally served a cabin in the “Rawalpindi” (leaving Oct. 3rd) & gave me till 26th to decide. We have now paid the deposit,(by the way, Mr. Graham may be interested to know they only asked £25 deposit), so that’s that. We have a “C” deck cabin with port holes seawards. The “Mantra” and others are “D” deck for the cabins.
As to the Lantern Lecture, I have been in communication with the school authorities at Oxted & they suggest the Aborigines’ slides as they think a more or less personal narrative would go down better

　感謝你的來信、那本有關「清明節」（廈門人的俗稱）的書以及投影片。
　我這次比較晚回信給你，因為我想要先試用過後再回信。
　有關回程此事，我只知道這禮拜才有辦法確定訂票事宜。他們臨時都會在拉瓦平第號（10月3日出海）提供艙房，並給我到26日前決定有無要搭乘。我們已經付了訂金（順帶一提，Graham先生可能會想知道訂金共付25英鎊），所以就決定依此辦理。我們船艙在C層，並且有面向海的舷窗。若改搭乘曼怛羅號或其他船，恐只有D層的船艙。
　至於有關燈籠講座，我已經跟奧斯達特校方聯繫，他們建議我放原住民投影片，因為他們認為一個有親身經歷的故事比較能讓年輕的聽眾感興趣。

註：chleng beng 應為cheng beng，XXX 汙損，無法辨識。判斷是指「回程」。
