Dear Dr. Maclagan,
I am very much obliged for the warm reception you have given to my previous letter, for the information you have given, and the Extract from the ‘minutes’ which I received yesterday.
I may have already mentioned that the reason I have kept myself unattached to any Society during the period of training, was that I wished to be free to offer where there was an immediate + urgent need at the time I was free.
It appears to me that your Society fulfills this condition.
The second condition – or rather mental reservation was that I should find myself in what (for want of a better phrase) I must call a congenial religious ‘atmosphere’.
Where I feel happiest is in such an atmosphere

非常感謝你對我上封信的熱情回應,也很感謝你提供的資訊以及會議記錄摘要,我昨日已經收到了。
我可能已提過我為何在受訓期間,選擇不依附於任何傳道會的原因。因到時哪裡有迫切與立即性需求時,我才能立即起身前往。
我發現貴傳道會符合這條件。
二個條件,我心理有所保留(因我也沒更好的說詞),即是希望能身處於一個友善的宗教「氛圍」。
我最喜愛的是
