Dear Dr. Maclagan,
The object of this is to inform you that I am thankful to be able to report very good progress with regard to my health. Not only has there been no further nuisance but I am also so fit as to be able for Tennis & Hockey. In fact I have been able to turn out for Selly Oak College’s men’s Hockey XI in matches – I give this as evidence of fitness.
We Mrs. M & I would very much like to return to Formosa in Spring – all being well. To wait, as would otherwise be necessary, until the following August-September would mean such a prolonged absence from professional work (I left Formosa last April) as to be, this early in my career of serious import. I’ve been held up enough as it is. Also we feel the urge to achieve as much as much as we can + as soon as we can. Dr. Landsborough, in whom & Miss Elliott a good strain is laid.

　我這封信目的是想告訴你，我的健康狀況有良好進展。我不僅身體健壯，還可以玩網球與曲棍球，甚至參加賽利橡樹學校的曲棍球比賽（男生組），我覺得這足以證明我自身健康狀況。
　若可行，我與我太太希望今年春天可以回福爾摩沙。若我們非得再拖至明年8、9月，我覺得會與專業工作脫離太久，恐會嚴重影響我職涯初期發展，我也覺得我也被耽誤夠久了。同時，我們期盼可以盡早盡自己一份心力。蘭大衛醫生與Elliott女士目前承受很大的工作壓力，
