Dr. Russell was born in Bathgate, Scotland. He graduated from Medical School, University of Glasgow with a Commendation in 1888, then took his journey and arrived in Taiwan in 1888. He was the very first medical missionary who started the very first medical service mission in central Taiwan. He rest in peace in 1892 by Typhoid Fever attacked him and buried in Tainan, Taiwan.
