Reverend Ferguson was born in Paisley, Renfrewshire, Scotland.
He arrived in Taiwan in 1889, and one of his important contributions was to establish the accounting system of churches. He married Dr. Elizabeth Blackburn Christie in 1892 and worked together for the Gospel.
He served at the Tainan Boys' School as the principal, then he took Principal at the Theological school for ten years. He returned to the UK for sick care but rest in peace in 1923 and was buried in Eastbourne, England.
